Uzbek riots trial to be open
RBC, 29.06.2005, Moscow 09:14:30.Participants of anti-president rallies in the Uzbek city of Andijan will stand on trial in several months and this trial will be open, the country's leader Islam Karimov declared at a meeting with his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin. Several detainees have begun to give evidence on the case, Mayak radio quoted Karimov as saying. The Uzbek head of state believes that the riots in Andijan had been conceived by third countries. Putin commented that Russia had information about gunmen who had arrived in Uzbekistan before the Andijan events. Official data says 169 people died as a result of the Andijan riots.
